Faster Process Baseline Creation vs. More Comprehensive Metrics

Business Context. Establishing a performance baseline before a redesign helps measure improvement, but collecting a comprehensive set of metrics can delay the redesign project itself while the baseline is being assembled.

Process TRIZ Resolution. Rather than waiting for a comprehensive baseline, organizations should establish a small set of critical baseline metrics quickly and expand the metric set in parallel as the redesign project proceeds.

Applicable TRIZ Principles

Principle 1 (Segmentation) separates a minimal critical baseline from a broader metric set collected later.

Principle 17 (Another Dimension) expands the metric set in parallel with redesign work rather than beforehand.

Principle 21 (Skipping) moves quickly past non-critical baseline metrics to keep the project on schedule.
